(The Ways Daily)- The South Sudan Media Authority released a press statement on interference of freedom of expression and the media freedom in South Sudan.
“This is to inform the general public, Government organs, Civil Society Organisations and all other institutions that it is a violation for anyone to interfere with the freedom of expression and the editorial independence of the media organisations in the Republic of South Sudan.
The right to freedom of expression, access to information including the public right to pluralistic media is a fundamental human right, protected under Articles 24 and 32 of the Transitional Constitution, 2011, as amended, and as stipulated under the guiding principles in Section 6 (1) of the Media Authority Act, 2013.
The Media Authority in exercise of its functions and duties in safeguarding information in the public interest do hereby advise any conflicting party to sort out their differences without hindering the press and or censor the media.
The management of Media Authority condemn any decision to threat and suppress freedom of expression. The Media Authority remain committed to promote the freedom of expression and the media in compliance with the South Sudan media laws and regulations.”
