Kiir appoints Dr. Barnaba Marial, as Special Envoy and Presidential Advisor.

(The Ways Daily)-South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a new presidential order, appointing  Dr. Barnaba Marial, as Special Envoy and Presidential Advisor.
South Sudan's President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation, as Special Envoy and Presidential Advisor.

Dr. Barnaba Marial was fired in early 2016 shortly after referring to a prominent academic scholar, Luka Biong Deng as a Sudanese citizen, a controversial comment which sparked outrage among the public and subsequently led to his dismissal a few days later.

He has not been appointed to a political position since his dismissal by the president in 2016.

Dr. Barnaba held a number of political positions in the government during the liberation struggle.

In August 2011, one month after the world's youngest nation gained full independence from the north, he was appointed to the first cabinet, as minister of information and broadcasting and served in that capacity until 2013.

Immediately following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreements (CPA), he served at the State level as minister of international cooperation.
